Letter to Smt. Sheila Dikshit, on Good Friday

Smt. Sheila Dikshit,
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi

Respected Ma’am,

This is to bring to your notice that Good Friday has not been declared as a Public Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act this year by the Delhi Government.

As you know Good Friday, is a day of great importance in the religious life of a Christian, as it is a day of reflection and contemplation on the life and death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a reminder to every Christian that Christ dies on the cross for the sins of this world and is marked across the world with prayer and fasting services.

This year, however, many Christians in Delhi will be denied their fundamental right to practise their religion, in the event of non declaration of a public holiday.

Please also note that financial markets are closed and other states in India have declared Good Friday as a public under the Negotiable Instrument Act.

It is our request that Christians in Delhi be allowed to observe Good Friday without any hindrance. We request that the Delhi government issue a notification declaring Good Friday as a Public Holiday at the earliest.

Yours truly,
