Mautam or Mautaam

Why do we need to spell as mautaam and not mautam?

Its lou taam not lou tam.

Its taamnem not tamnem.

Its taamsawl not tamsawl.

Hence the spelling!

Mautam literally means many or plenty of bamboo, whereas mautaam literally mean scarcity of bamboo.

I think for many bamboo it will be mau tam but mautaam is a word always written 2gather.
