Steps to file Income tax for the FY 2012-13 (AY 2013-14)

Before starting to file the return keep the following information ready.
Date of birth, Full residential address, Landline phone number, Mobile phone number.
A working email ID where activation link of the registration in IT website will be send to.
Your Saving bank details like Name of the bank, IFSC, Account number.
The first preferable step is to register yourself in the income tax website
Here you need to enter Your PAN number, then your full name, mobile number, working email, fathers name. The registration needs to be authenticated by the opening the email send to you and by CLICKING the given url for activation.

Form 26AS: Checking the amount of tax credited in your name
Login to the website and go to View Form 26AS (Tax Credit ) on the left panel. Click CONFIRM button in the next screen. Click View Tax Credit (Form 26AS) to on the last line of what was written about the screen. Select the Assessment year, view as PDF and click view/download. Check this with your Form 16. If there is any discrepancies make an adjustment.

Quick online filing
1. Open the website:
2. Click Quick e-File ITR on the left panel
3. Select the form ITR-1/4S and the Assessment year as 2013-14.
4. Prefill Address with From PAN Database. Opt for NO digital signature and click SUBMIT.
5. Enter/Edit your personal details in the second tab.
6. Fill in the third tab (Income details) as given in Form 16. If you have income from different sources, report them by entering their TAN separately. Check out your form 26AS. (Supposing that you did not win a lottery or prize money where tax is deducted in your name. You will have part A only in form 26AS.)
7. Now enter in the TDS deduction details like TAN of the deductor(your employer), the amount upon which deducted and the amout deducted.
8. If you have a tax deducted other than Salary, enter them in the appropriate column by linking with the TAN from form 26AS.
9. If there is a shortage of tax deduction go to E-Pay Tax in the left panel of the IT website and pay the amount through internet banking. Add the challan and BSR code of the bank.
10. Go to the next tab Tax paid and verification by entering your bank account details to which the refund, if any will be credited automatically by the IT authorities.
11. Click submit after checking once again all the details entered by you. Acknowledgment ( ITR-V) is automatically generated. You may download the same in the current screen. To open the file type your PAN no in small letter followed by your date of birth in ddmmyyyy format with no space in between.
12. Print out the ITR-V and send it by snail mail to Bangaluru.
